High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:

- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire

Decathlon Dream Team
Our Tighes Hill students recently showcased their exceptional talents by winning the Hunter Region final of the Da Vinci Decathlon competition, outperforming a range of independent private schools. They then competed at the State finals held at Knox Grammar, continuing to demonstrate their outstanding abilities. This achievement highlights the strength of the incredible dedication of the students.

Soccer Superstar
Mae, achieved an outstanding milestone by representing the Hunter in the NSWPSSA Football Championships. Mae and the Hunter team secured first place, taking home the gold medal. She scored the winning goal from an incredible corner with her powerful left boot. Mae’s outstanding performance earned her a well-deserved spot on the NSW State team.
This impressive accomplishment highlights Mae's dedication, talent and hard work both on and off the field. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Mae's excellence in sport.

Masterpiece Makers
Our Year 2 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in a special art project facilitated by Newcastle Art Gallery’s Kate. They learned about local waterways such as the Throsby Basin and created stunning fish, crabs, and oysters that will be featured as animated illustrations in a video installation at the gallery’s upcoming reopening. This unique experience highlights the creativity and engagement, as students from schools across the local area contribute to this collaborative artwork.

Young Leaders, Big Impact
A big congratulations to our amazing Year 6 captains and Year 5 aspiring leaders who proudly represented our school at the Callaghan Young Leader’s Conference alongside students from our network of schools. Through collaboration and team-building activities, they demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and set a wonderful example for others. Well done to our students for being such great THPS ambassadors and inspiring future leaders!
